Specializing in cataract and lens implant procedures, Lasik (laser) refractive surgery, and diseases of the cornea and external eye, Dr. Charlton has over 25 years experience in his home state of Utah.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Utah State University, Dr. Charlton received early acceptance to the University of Utah School of Medicine. Upon graduation, he was accepted into a residency at the University of Utah Medical Center. After studying ophthalmology at Stanford University, he was selected for a fellowship in Cornea and External Eye Disease at the University of California, San Diego.

His colleagues subsequently elected him to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Refractive Surgery.

Trained by Dr. Barraquer, the inventor of modern refractive surgery, Dr. Charlton is the co-founder of Utah’s first Lasik center He is actively involved in training other surgeons in the LASIK procedure. He specializes in small incision cataract surgery and is a co founder of a medicare certified specialty out patient surgical center devoted only to surgery of the eye.

Dr. Charlton is board-certified in eye surgery by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. A member of the Academy of Ophthalmology, he has presented several significant research papers on advances in cornea surgery at Academy meetings.

Dr. Charlton is a past president of the Utah Ophthalmological Society, and he continues to serve on the education committee.

Dr. Charlton is married with two daughters and enjoys skiing, hiking, travel, and golf.
